FAQ

What is Melee?

Melee is a platform for speculating on live moments — games, matches, challenges, and events that actually happen on stream or online.

You buy outcomes you believe in, and if you’re right when the market ends, you win a share of the losing side’s pool.

Is this the final version of Melee?

No. This is the Alpha — the first public version of a brand-new financial primitive.

Melee is testing an entirely new prediction market design built on bonding curves. This is your chance to try it early, help shape how it evolves, give feedback, and, if you’re early and right, make great gains along the way.

How do I participate?

Choose a market, connect your wallet, and buy the outcome you think will win. Example: Who wins this match? → You buy Player A. If Player A wins, your position pays out and you can claim on the "My Markets" page.

What are odds?

Odds on Melee come from how much total money is backing each outcome. If more people buy one side, its price goes up. The odds only move when real money moves, not when a market maker updates them.

Why does the price change when I buy?

Melee uses bonding curves, which make prices rise as more people buy the same outcome. If you buy early, you get a better price and more upside as additional people buy into the opposing pools. If you buy late, your upside is dictated by the odds, just like a standard prediction market.

Can I sell before the market ends?

No. Once you buy, you hold your position until the market expires. Trading and cashouts are planned for future updates.

How do markets end?

Markets close when their time expires, and they’re resolved based on the objective result of the event. Once resolved, winnings are distributed to be claimed by users.

What are the different ways to buy?

Melee offers two main ways to enter a market: Positional Buys and Melee All. Learn more about how to enter a market here.

What are Positional Buys?

Positional Buys are the classic approach. You pick one or a few outcomes and buy into them directly. If you’re right and early, you get the highest potential upside. If you’re wrong, your position goes to zero. This is best for high-conviction traders who want to maximize returns.

Example: Betting on the Pacers to win the Finals. If they win, you claim your stake plus your share of all losing pools. If they lose, you’re out.

What is Melee All?

Melee All lets you buy exposure to every outcome in a market. Instead of betting on one side, you’re betting on the market’s total growth.

If you think a market will go viral or attract a lot of volume but don’t want to pick sides, Melee All lets you profit from that growth. The earlier you enter, the cheaper your buys. As more participants join, all outcomes appreciate.

Even if most outcomes lose, gains from the winning outcome can potentially offset those losses.

Example: You buy into two outcomes early. Both double in price. At resolution, one outcome wins and one loses. You lose everything on the losing side, but your doubled gain on the winning side nets you a +100% overall profit.

Important: Melee All is not a guaranteed profitable strategy. It only works if the market grows enough to outweigh losses. The closer the odds between outcomes, the more likely your Melee All will pay off.

Can I hedge my position?

Yes. You can buy multiple outcomes to balance your exposure. For example, if you think a match is close, you can buy both sides in different sizes. It’s a way to reduce risk while staying active in the market. Learn more about hedging here.

What kind of markets will I see?

All markets are currently created by Melee. They focus on live matches, creator challenges, and other verifiable events that can be streamed or confirmed digitally.
