How to Buy
Melee offers two main ways to enter a market: Positional Buys and Melee All.
Users don’t have to speculate on just one outcome. If they are bullish on the growth of a market’s overall size, they can buy all outcomes (Melee All) and make money by being early. If for example, a user buys both outcomes in a binary market and are up 2x on each, no matter which outcome is correct, they will make money. The closer the odds, the better chance that your Melee All will pay off. If you are unsure if the market will grow enough to make you profitable on all positions, be more selective about the outcomes you select. The fewer outcomes you select, the higher your potential return.
Positional Buy (Single Outcome)
A Positional Buy is the classic approach: pick one or a couple of outcomes and buy shares.
If you’re right and early, you get the highest potential upside.
If you’re wrong, your position goes to zero.
Best for high-conviction traders who want to maximize returns.
Example: Betting “Yes” on the Pacers to win the Finals. If they win, you claim your stake + your share of all losing pools. If they lose, you’re out.
Melee All (All Outcomes)
Melee All lets you buy exposure to every outcome in a market. Instead of betting on one side, you’re betting on the market’s total growth.
The earlier you enter, the cheaper your shares.
As more participants join, all outcomes appreciate.
Even if some outcomes lose, gains from the others can offset your losses.
Example:
You buy into 2 outcomes early. Both double (+200%).
At resolution, 1 outcome wins, 1 loses.
You lose 100% on the losing side.
But your +200% gain on the winning side nets you a +100% overall profit.
The bigger the market grows, the larger the cushion and upside.
Why It Works
✅ Speculate on growth, not just outcomes – Profit if the market goes viral, even without predicting perfectly. ✅ Early entry advantage – Lower cost per share = higher % returns. ✅ Safer exposure – You’re not locked into one side; you spread across outcomes.
Which Strategy to Choose?
Use Positional Buys if you have conviction in a single outcome.
Use Melee All if you believe the market will grow rapidly, but don’t want to pick sides.
Both reward early conviction - the difference is whether you’re betting on being right or being early to growth.
